Tired of the children on the streets? Tired of the old lady begging? Tired of seeing new slums in our city? Tired of overly-sized families and teen pregnancy? We have grown up with this scenery. We join clubs and organizations to help, but does this really solve the problem? I say, no, it doesn’t.
If a man is hungry teach him to fish. The key word is TEACH. We despise coming to school, but that is because we can have the luxury to despise it. Nicaragua needs to learn. We need to teach Nicaragua. Ignorance is the best weapon for a tyrant. I don’t want to be a tyrant. I want to be the first president of Nicaragua. We haven’t ever had a president; robbers, thieves, dictators, by the dozen. Statesmen, NONE!
Education is my goal. Imagine the following with me: preschools in every municipality equipped with whiteboards, construction paper, pastel colored classrooms; fifteen kids per class with a teacher and an assistant; elementary public schools with plenty of infrastructure, playground, happy teachers, books for the poor; high school teachers that actually teach. Imagine that our young Nicaraguan citizens really know math, science, literature, history. Imagine that our public high school students actually have dreams. Right now, going to college; that dream is as blurry and murky as Lake Managua. Technical schools? Ha! Tell me a better joke. That is why besides improving elementary and high school educational facilities I will open a technical school in each department. We will change Nicaragua. It will be slow change, but it will be a permanent change. No more ignorance for the poor. Educated poor mean, better jobs, less people in misery, more doctors, nurses, engineers, mechanics, proper trained construction workers among other professions. And how to finance this? No more tax cuts to the big enterprises. Nicaragua’s middle class doesn’t exist. The governments have killed it with large taxes on income. Big enterprises must pay taxes for the first time. I will have a tax cut in order to start a middle class in Nicaragua. If we have learned something from US society is that a strong middle class provides a stable and democratic society. Vote for me and Nicaragua will start walking forward and be a real democracy.
